As the Winter weather settles in, I want to assure my Spokane, WA & CDA, ID clients that a Maternity Session is still possible! If you are ready to brave the cold, then the outdoor options are of course endless; I have a variety of gorgeous outdoor locations for an Outdoor Winter Maternity Session in Spokane WA, or North Idaho. However, if you prefer to stay warm during our session, a cosy Indoor Maternity Session is a great alternative! I do have a few special indoor options for my clients, or we can simply utilize the comfort of your own home. Of course, booking a session in a studio is also an option for you and if you want some creative shots, a photography studio might be best. This doesn’t suit everyone though! Some people prefer being photographed at home. I encourage clients who are interested in an indoor maternity session to consider doing an in-home Maternity Session; I believe your own home is the best space for a cosy Indoor Maternity Session, and here is why:
1. Your Home Authentically Portrays Who You Are
I imagine that you and your family have taken some time to make the necessary changes to your home precisely the way you desire it to be, either with the assistance of home improvement Roanoke services or independently. You may be in for a few surprises (not very pleasant ones, of course) if you don’t start with renovating your home while you are expecting. And it doesn’t matter if you are repainting your walls, creating a new nursery, or adding more plants to your living space, your decor is unique to you; the art, the colors, the textures, all say something about who you are, and I want to include these special pieces of you in our images together.
2. Your Home is a Place of Comfort
I want you to feel comfortable during our session together. Choosing to do an indoor session in your own home allows your family to enjoy the session in a familiar space, where you can feel fully comfortable showing off your beautiful baby belly!
3. Being at Home Allows for an Intimate Session
The warmth, and access to your own private wardrobe will give us the space to capture the deep connection, and intimate moments between you and your partner as you eagerly anticipate baby’s arrival. I can help you document some of these sacred moments in an artful, tasteful way.
4. An In-Home Winter Maternity Session is Ideal for Incorporating Siblings
If there are children present, being at home offers them a familiar environment, and gives us the space to capture their authentic connection with their soon to arrive brother/sister!
After you book your Indoor Maternity Session with me, here are Four Helpful Tips to Prepare for Your Indoor Maternity Session in your home.
1. Clean Surfaces and Minimal Decor Go a Long Way
You do not need to have a Vogue-like home for a great Indoor Maternity session! As long as there are a few organized spaces with adequate lighting, we can make an indoor session work well in your home. (Really, any home!) No need to hire a cleaning crew – simply clear away clutter from the surfaces surrounding the space we will be taking photos (less is more!). Adding a sheer curtain to a window brings elegance and softness. (Now, do not fret about buying your own if you do not already have them; I have some sheer white curtains that you are welcome to borrow!) Additionally, if you do prefer to make the photos very catchy, you can experiment with lights. You can check out some neon lights like the ones designed by Neon Mama and similar others (yes, one of those would be more than enough as a backdrop for the pictures).
2. Utilize Your Baby Corner.
Perhaps you have been working hard to put together a nursery, or a small baby corner in your room? This is a great spot to take a few pictures in anticipation for baby’s arrival. If you live somewhere in Oregon, check for maternity photography Portland to get some really good photos.
3. Plants, Plants, and More Plants! Honestly, even just two or three plants magnificently modify the mood of a space. I suggest a zee zee, and a sansaveria to start with, and if you want to get really ambitious, a hanging pothos (or five). These three types thrive on negligence so if you have a hard time taking care of plants, do not worry – they basically take care of themselves!! A few plants will add a layer of beauty and life to our photo session.
4. Dress Comfortably in Solid, Light, Neutral Colours.
If you are stuck for what to wear, please visit my Maternity Wardrobe and let me know if something peeks your interest. Let’s brainstorm together with the clothes you already have, and put together an outfit combination. Clients often text me outfit combo ideas, and I assist in putting together the perfect combination for your session.
I hope these tips were helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions, and please reach out when you are ready to reserve a session with me.
