For World Breastfeeding Week, I met with a few different moms to help them capture their breastfeeding relationship, and to hear a little about their breastfeeding journey. Meet Lana Griffin, one of the strongest, most gracious and joyful people I know, and I am honoured to share this warrior-mom’s breastfeeding story with you all:
“My nursing experience has been one hard trying road. After having a very long and exhausting labor which ended in a c-section, for sure I thought nursing would have to work since the wish of mine for a natural birth fell through. Well, not so much. I’ve tried practically everything to up the supply and while always hopeful weeks turned into more weeks there I was, still unable to provide fully for my babe. To say it has been very hard would be an understatement, but God has sought me through each and every step of the way. To be fully honest, very often I felt like a total failure as a mom. When she was just a few weeks old, there were days of me feeding her formula in tears. And then gradually, I began to have days of ‘ok, I’ve accepted this, this is ok’, Today, I’m thankful to say that I’m at a place of total gratitude. I’m grateful for my babes’ life. Grateful that she’s made me a mom. Grateful that at least I’m able to produce half of her meal for her. Isn’t that a blessing in itself? I sure think so and I think it’s all about how we moms look at a situation we’re facing. Yes, I turned to formula, the best of the best kind for her, and knowing she is getting enough makes me happy and her tummy full. If you’ve had to walk this very same road, my heart truly goes out to you, sweet momma. There are days that will still be very hard, but in your despair choose gratitude and joy. Choose it. I hope my short story encourages you and inspires you to look at whatever the trial in front of you with gratitude and joy.”
