Breastfeeding baffles me; I think it’s incredible how God created our bodies to nourish our children, and even more amazing that from the moment they are born, babies already know what to do! Yet it doesn’t always come without struggle, and it can be frustrating to deal with issues of low supply, difficulty latching, having to supplement, and more; it’s easy to blame oneself, and to find it difficult to bond with your babe.
We all do the best we can to give our babes the very best, in all the forms of what feeding our babies looks like. Katie reached out to me recently, sharing the struggle she’s had breastfeeding her son. Knowing that their nursing days are coming to a close, she asked if I might capture a glimpse of her breastfeeding journey with her sweet babe, Colton.
She shares a little of her story here. I’m sure many can relate…
“I want to thank Esther so much for the opportunity to document a part of Colton & I’s breastfeeding journey! We have struggled with low supply issues straight from the start for various reasons, mostly because I believe I may have inadequate glandular tissue & a possibly milk transfer issue with the baby. I have done everything in my power to produce more milk from nursing vacations to pumping for what seems like all day & all night! At first, I was devastated that I wasn’t able to exclusively breastfeed my son, but as time has passed I have begun to make peace with our situation. I don’t take any time we get to nurse for granted. I have spent so much time trying to figure out why we had such difficulties & have learned so much because of that. I feel blessed for all the milk that I have been able to give to my son and hope for a better supply with my next baby. He is happy & healthy and to me, that’s all that matters :) “
Thank you so much for sharing, Katie, I am honoured that you invited me to capture a glimpse of your intimate nursing relationship. ♡
